www.oakvillebeaver.com Artscene Oakville Beaver · FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 2008 25 More bedroom shots than slapshots for rookie MVP actor By Krissie Rutherford OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF You may not know who Dillon Casey is yet, but there's a good chance you've seen him in his underwear. The 24-year-old Oakville native plays the highly touted hockey phenom, Trevor Lemonde, in the soon-to-premiere CBC series about the off-ice lives of hockey stars, MVP. Casey is the one you see holding a hockey stick in nothing but his underwear in the CBC commercials, a scene he recalls being "pretty awkward." "I've gotten used to it," said the Oakville Trafalgar High School grad, smiling. "It's become a running gag that I'm always wearing just my underwear. I go to get lunch and I'm in my underwear. I go to the movies and I'm in my underwear." And there are more racy scenes like that in MVP than there are hockey scenes. "There might be one scene on the ice," said Casey, "I'm not even sure about that. There are a lot of scenes in the locker room." The show is being marketed as `The secret lives of hockey wives,' with the premise that when the hockey gear comes off, "that's when the game gets really interesting." Slated to premiere Jan. 11, Casey says while MVP is about hockey in Canada, it's a different kind of show for Canada's TV network. "I don't think the CBC has done anything like this before, because it's really racy, edgy, risky," he said. The premise of MVP is that the captain of the Mustangs pro hockey team, Adam McBride, dies of a drug overdose. Instead of using the insurance policy to help out the family a wife and daughter, who are now broke the team uses the money to recruit Lemonde, who Casey characterizes as "a Sidney Crosby hockey-type phenomenon." Casey played a bit of intramural hockey in university, but says he's nowhere near that level. Lemonde comes from a small town called Loon Lake, and is suddenly thrust into the spotlight and the world of "fast cars, lots of money, partying and drugs," said Casey.
