Ceelen is joined in the honour by other Halton principals including Heather Conlin of Burlington's Tecumseh Public School and Caroline Conn-Smith of Burlington's Aldershot School. An initiative of The Learning Partnership, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to championing public education in Canada, the program honours principals in publicly-funded schools who have made a measurable difference in the lives of their students and their own local communities. From Feb. 24 to 28, the 33 winning principals will participate in a five-day Executive Leadership Training Program at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management. The winners will also be inducted into the National Academy of Principals and will have the opportunity to participate in a year-long online forum. On Feb. 26, the winners will be formally honoured at Canada's Outstanding Principals Awards Gala Celebration in Toronto. Now in its fourth year, Canada's Outstanding Principals program was developed as an endeavour between The Learning Partnership and the Canadian Association of Principals, in collaboration with the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management. Since being launched, 90 leaders from across the country have been selected as Canada's Outstanding Principals. Nominations were received from every province and territory and selection was on a representation by population basis. Judging was conducted by a group of Canadian education, community and private sector leaders. Candidates were scored in the categories of: characteristics of outstanding principals; evidence of partnerships with parents and community; a personal story illustrating successful change and innovation which resulted in improved student achievement as well as letters of support.
