www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 18, 2008 - 21 Bowl for Kids Sake and help local youths Can you remember someone in your life who always had a kind word and a generous heart? This is the gift a mentor gives to a child. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton (BBBSH) matches volunteers with children in one-to-one mentoring relationships. Together they discover how everyday moments are full of magic. That's why Oakville-area Tim Hortons store owners are sponsoring Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake for the second year in a row. "As a proud member of the Oakville community, we are thrilled to support an organization that assists so many children in our neighbourhoods," said Melissa Van Nieuwenhuyse, Senior Manager, Regional Marketing Ontario. "In addition to providing incentive prizes, our store owners also established a Tim Hortons' team challenge to further support this meaningful event," said Van Nieuwenhuyse. This year BBBSH is hosting five events. Both the Halton Catholic School Board and the Halton Public School Board are hosting their own challenges to take place on Feb. 8, and Feb. 15 respectively. Three other events have spaces available for teams wishing to register. Georgetown Bowl will host the Mayor Bonnette Invitational Challenge on Feb. 24, the Kevin Flynn Invitational 10-pin Challenge takes place on March 28 at Classic Bowl and finally Hopedale Bowl hosts the Public and Financial 5-pin Challenge on March 30. While BBBSH served 600 children last year, it's known there are more than 1,400 additional children at risk, children and youths who could significantly benefit from the mentoring programs provided by the agency. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton receives no ongoing government funding so it is campaigns like Bowl for Kids Sake that ensures the agency can continue to reach out to those children most in need of a mentor. Everyone can make a difference. Join with four friends, family members, or co-workers, and enter your team in this year's Bowl for Kids Sake or sponsor a bowler. With the community support of Bowl For Kids Sake events, the goal is to raise $40,000. Public participation in Bowl for Kids Sake will help make a life-long difference in the lives of children in the community. Help local kids by supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton.
