Feb. 7 The next Canadian Club of Halton Peel dinner is slated for Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Oakville Conference Centre. The topic: It's the Food, Dude! The dinner speaker is chef and owner of The Twisted Fork Restaurant, Michael Kilip, who began his culinary adventure in 1986. When looking for a change in career, Kilip joined the Stratford Chefs School. After completing his formal training, Kilip gained experience at The Old Prune Restaurant in Stratford and at a number of venues in Boca Raton, Key West and Mexico. Returning to the Stratford Chefs School in 1991, Kilip had the honour of instructing students along with his mentors for two years. After that, Kilip moved to Oakville, where he became the head chef at Paradiso Restaurant. In the summer of 2002, Kilip and his wife Laura realized their dream of opening their own restaurant, and established the Twisted Fork at 67 Bronte Rd. Housing 75 seats and overlooking Bronte Harbour, Twisted Fork isn't simply a restaurant. It offers theme nights, cooking classes, winemaker's events, catering and more. Always active in the community, Kilip was nominated last year in the Individual Volunteer category of Oakville's Community Spirit Awards for his Gourmet Dining Events at Wyndham Manor. He was also nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year in the Oakville Awards for Business Excellence. For many years, Kilip has been recognized as "Best Chef in Oakville" by The Oakville Beaver Readers Selection Awards. Oakville residents are invited to hear about Kilip's experiences, his family, the restaurant business, community spirit, and the future, at the upcoming Canadian Club of Halton Peel dinner.
