36 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 18, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Devils, Raiders have rivalry Continued from page 35 Tied at 21, it came down to a four-point game. Aquinas coach Peter Szpakowski said the tide turned on a single point. "There was one ball that hit the tape and rolled over (falling on the Aquinas' side)," he said. "That was our chance to steal one." That put OT up 23-21 and the teams exchanged points the rest of the way, allowing the Devils to take the 25-23 win. While Neefs had provided the Raiders with outstanding blocking in the opening game, the Raiders were caught with an unfavourable matchup in the second game and OT took full advantage. The Devils had three runs of five or more points. Strong defence also allowed them to hold Aquinas to just four points off its serve. "There's been a rivalry between us. STA has been a bit of a nemesis for us," said OT coach Maria Seto. "I think the girls were anxious to start but that first game gave us momentum and some confidence." It's a rivalry Seto wouldn't mind renewing in the Halton final. "Anyone but Georgetown," she said with a smile. -- Herb Garbutt HOT WINGS: The Oakville novice red Wings and their coaches were an excited bunch after winning the championship at the Past Presidents House League Tournament in Niagara Falls recently.
