www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday January 19, 2008 - 5 Police make arrest in connection with Burger King bandit robbery A 19-year-old Oakville man is facing a charge of robbery in connection with the December theft of powerful narcotics from the River Oaks Pharmacy. On Dec. 18 a man disguised as the Burger King `King' and armed with a knife entered the pharmacy, located on Sixth Line. The man threatened the staff with the knife and then went behind the counter and stole approximately $1,300 worth of drugs -- mainly OxyContin. Police note OxyContin is the main narcotic of choice on the streets currently as its effects apparently mirror those of heroine. No one was injured during the robbery. Charged with robbery is Fraser Devereese, of Oakville. Devereese was scheduled for a bail hearing, yesterday, at Milton Provincial Court, however, the hearing results were unknown at press time. Halton's water may be in for a promotional boost Halton Regional council wants to see more promotion when it comes to the quality and benefits of Halton's water. Council passed a motion at its meeting Wednesday that directs staff to investigate and report back with a communication plan to promote the Region's water. The resolution calls for the plan to address consumer choice, fluoride content, bottling of Halton's water (which the Region already does to promote its water) and the decision process that led to implementing ozonation technology for water disinfection. The motion was made by Burlington Councillor Peter Thoem, who brought the item forward after hearing from a resident who suggested the Region should advise the public on the quality of water they can get from the tap. "I hope the Region will be able to promote to its residents that we do indeed have the best quality water around," Thoem noted. Staff will bring a report back on the issue to future committee and council meetings for consideration. OAKVILLE BEAVER CONTEST WINNER Congratulations to our Great Gift Giveaway Winner!
