PARC PE 14 has been examining the situations at Brantwood, Linbrook, New Central, Maple Grove, Chisholm and E.J. James Public Schools and Oakville Trafalgar High School for months in an effort to reach the best possible solution to existing accommodation issues, which include near overcrowding in some schools while others are underutilized. "When you start looking at things like special education, music teachers, research, librarians and viceprincipals you need to have a certain level of enrollment to be able to offer those kinds of programs to the different schools," said Gerry Ockenden, PARC PE 14 Chair and Halton Hills Ward 1 and 2 trustee. "If we can come up with a structure for the community concerning the number of schools required and we can split up the number of students then we can get some of these services and supports that they don't have now." On Tuesday Jan. 29 the committee members will present the recommendations yielded from this research to the residents of Oakville at a public information meeting. This final PARC meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Oakville Trafalgar High School, located at 1460 Devon Rd., is being held to give the public one last opportunity to weigh in on the options being presented before they are taken to the Halton District School Board. Ockenden outlined the two structures the committee will bring forward at the meeting. "We're looking at having three English elementary schools that offer Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6, one French immersion school that offers Grades 1-6, one duel track (French/English) school that offers Grade 7-8 and Oakville Trafalgar High School," said Ockenden of the first structure. "In the second structure we have two English schools that offer Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6, one French immersion school that offers Grades 1-6, one duel track (French/English) school that offers Grades 7-8 and Oakville Trafalgar High School." While the committee is not naming any schools to be closed in their recommendations their options do reduce the number of existing school facilities by one in the first recommendation and by two in the second. The dynamics of the existing schools would also be significantly altered under these recommendations as E.J. James and Linbrook Public Schools both currently offer See Committee page 10 FINAL WEEK LOOK BETTER, FEEL BETTER DON'T PAY IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME.
