www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 25, 2008 - 35 Enjoy family fun time this winter with a board game from Pinocchio's Pick of the Crop Turn off the television and DVD player. Now, get ready, get set, play games! Welcome to the game season, which is not to be confused with the television sports variety. Winter and our largely indoor lives prompt a gathering around the table to enjoy some good humoured competition in the spirit of quality togetherness time for everyone from the age of four right up to the 99-year-olds in the clan. This is a familiar scene for Christine Pritchard, owner of Pinocchio's Pick of the Crop. At her Oakville home, or her northern getaway chalet where her four children and husband escape to for as many winter weekends as they can, the boxes of board games are cracked open and the decks of cards are shuffled. To encourage the same scene in other family homes, from now until the end of this month, a big sale is under way at her Lakeshore Road shop to make picking up a longed for book, game or toy that much more appealing. The emptied shelves will make room for new spring stock that will be rolling in shortly. That's because beginning next week Pritchard is heading out on the toy show circuit. Toronto is first on the itinerary, then New York. The "biggest and best" one in Nurnberg, Germany is saved for the last of Pritchard's shopping stops. "We get to see all of the latest and greatest toys that the industry has to offer at these trade shows," said Pritchard. Playing games is encouraged on these road trips. And you can be sure that Pritchard personally does test runs on as many as she can. By early March and into April the inventory at Pinocchio's Pick of the Crop will reveal all the results of Pritchard's worldwide, whirlwind shopping trips. She promises to have a bevy of the newest games in stock, as well as the latest spins on the time-honoured traditional ones. "We are careful with what and where we purchase our games, toys, trinkets, playthings, crafts, books and puzzles," added Pritchard. Ensuring that the 25-year-old local landmark maintains its long-established reputation for providing high quality, educational and just plain fun merchandise is paramount to Pritchard.
