www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 25, 2008 - 37 Atom AE Rangers dominant at Grimsby tournament The Oakville atom AE Rangers were nearly perfect at a tournament in Grimsby earlier this month, allowing only one goal in four games. SPORTSBRIEFS Oakville blitzed teams from Richmond Hill, Dundas and Grimsby by a combined score of 27-1, clinching gold with a 5-0 win over Richmond Hill in the final. Anthony Antonakos, Cedric Boutin, Adam Colavecchio, Luke Corbeth, Niall Currah, Connor Droog, Reece Feijo, Luke Roy and Blake Stewart provided much of the scoring, cheered on by teammate Daniel Devlin, who was unable to play. At the Schomberg tournament, Oakville defeated Barrie 7-2, Schomberg #2 2-0 and Schomberg #1 1-0 (in overtime). Peewee girls' orange Tigers Perhaps all the Oakville Hornets peewee orange Tigers needed to do to find success was avoid playing other local teams. The Tigers, who have had their struggles in regular-season house league action, went undefeated to capture the gold at the recent Cambridge Roadrunners tournament earlier this month. Oakville defeated Cambridge Black 5-1 and Cambridge White 3-1, then played Kincardine to a scoreless draw to reach the championship game, where Kristina Debellis' goal and Shannon McGuire's shutout goaltending lifted the Tigers to a 1-0 win over Kincardine. Also contributing to the gold-medal win were Isabella Caravaggio, Bailey Dean, Maddy Dwyer, Keara Maynard, Leah Murray, Becca Palmer-Vida, Dana Seagrove, Stephanie Tambosso, Hanna Thomson, Katrina Walker, Emily Watson-Martin and Mykela White. Moe Tambosso, Chris Thomson and Ciro Caravaggio coach the team, and Ann Maynard is the trainer. Peewee red Vikings The Oakville Strataflex peewee red Vikings were a busy bunch over the recent holiday season, winning two tournament titles. The Vikings went 3-0-1 at a competition in Thorold, clinching gold with a 4-1 win over Dunville, and then rolled to a 5-0 record at a tournament in Bradford, edging Barrie 2-1 in the final. The Vikings also squeezed in a house league game between the tournaments, downing the Eagles 2-0. Leading goal-scorers for the Vikings in the two tournaments were Ryan McNamara (eight), Jesse Taylor (six), Tom Fox (five), Jarret Macdougall (four) and Graham Prentice (four). Patrick McGinnis and Jeffrey Nye scored three goals each; Mason Kuipers, Ryan Vournakis, Connor Prescott and Dane Mastantuono had two apiece; and Brenton Heyburgh and Mitch Cowburn contributed singles. Sean Murray posted five shutouts in the 10 tournament games. Eric Burzycki collected six assists. "In nearly 40 years of working with teams, this is one for the books," head coach Marshall Snowball said of the two tournament wins, the Vikings' second and third gold medals of the season. CHAMPIONS: The Oakville atom AE Rangers (top), minor peewee red Vikings (middle) and Oakville Hornets peewee orange Tigers were three of the local squads to win tournament titles in recent action.
