www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday January 30, 2008 - 25 HEATED RIVALRY: Oakville Blades' Luke Turcotte (right) squares off with Hamilton's Steve Spade during Monday's Provincial Junior A Hockey League game in Hamilton. The Red Wings spanked the Blades on the scoreboard, 13-4. MICHAEL IVANIN / SPECIAL TO THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Judson's shutout dreams dashed quickly Continued from page 24 into the butterfly position so that he wouldn't take a puck in the knee. "We just didn't want him to get hurt," Wren said. Judson's job wasn't made any easier by the fact that the Blades were down to just three defencemen for the third period. And even though the game was well out of hand, it didn't ease the pressure on Judson. "I was still nervous," he said. "I wanted to get the shutout." That dream died pretty quickly as he allowed a power-play goal to Kristopher Krolouski just 67 seconds into his Jr. A goaltending debut. He was beaten four more times in the next eight minutes but gradually the skills came back to him. He didn't allow another goal over the final 11 minutes and even impressed his teammates. "He made some big stops," said Coccimiglio. "He did," Wren added. "I don't know if I should be worried about my job but I'm proud of the guy. It's a weird situation, obviously, but he stepped up to the plate for the team. He's a good friend and I admire him doing something like that." Judson, who sports a goals-against average of 15.00 and a .545 save percentage, said Wren has no worries about job security. He'll be quite happy to return to the blueline when the Blades play in Brampton tomorrow (Thursday). Asked what the most difficult part of playing net was, Judson responded, "Well, I didn't know the angles very well, I couldn't stand up that well in the equipment and the shots are obviously a lot harder in Jr. A," He laughed, then added, "Basically everything about being a goalie." The Blades won both their games last weekend, blanking Brampton 5-0 Friday and edging Milton 3-2 Saturday. Greenham picked up the shutout against the Caps and Wren earned the triumph versus Milton. Three-point weekend for junior Ice It was win, lose and draw last weekend for the Oakville Ice in Provincial Women's Hockey League action. The Ice earned its first win of the calendar year Friday at Cambridge, edging the Fury 2-1. Oakville then tied the Aurora Jr. Panthers 1-1 the following night, before returning home Sunday and dropping a 4-2 decision to the Mississauga Chiefs. The LumberJax dropped two games the past week to fall to 0-3 on the National Lacrosse League season. Portland was edged 12-11 by the Colorado Mammoth Thursday in Portland, then was roughed up 13-6 by the Calgary Roughnecks Saturday. Dawson had two goals and an assist versus Calgary, after striking for two goals and two helpers against Colorado. He leads the team with eight goals and 15 points. The LumberJax will try to break their losing streak Saturday, when they visit the Edmonton Rush. Dawson's younger brother Paul, recently converted from goaltender to defenceman, was also part of losses to Calgary and Colorado last weekend. His San Jose Stealth fell 16-13 to the Roughnecks Friday and was dumped 11-6 by the Mammoth Saturday. Paul has five penalty minutes so far this year, a fighting major he earned during the Stealth's season-opening 13-12 win in Calgary Jan. 12.
