European Engineering Combined With Traditional Workmanship the memory of Marc Anthony Pauley, 44, who passed away Dec. 10 when an epileptic seizure caused him to drown in his bathtub. An avid bowler, Marc was also a longtime volunteer of the Oakville Minor Baseball Association where he coached and mentored children. "He just spent a lot of time volunteering with the children and nurturing their skills and their love of the game," said Kerri Pauley, Marc's sister-in-law. As one of Marc's key desires was to see children happy, it only made sense, Kerri said, to hold a bowl-a-thon for him with the proceeds going towards an Epilepsy Ontario program that will send epileptic children to summer camp. " We're going to be doing some raffles with prizes and different draws to keep it fun for everyone," said Kerri. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder, which causes sudden bursts of hyperactivity in the brain. This hyperactivity in turn produces seizures, which vary in frequency and form. Marc's seizures took the form of Marc Anthony Pauley severe convulsions, which followed him throughout his life. "He wasn't able to hold a driver's license because of it and so he was reliant on his friends and family to drive him from place to place," said Kerri. "Whenever he did have a seizure it was very embarrassing for him. It takes a toll both mentally and physically. After a seizure a person goes into an almost coma-like sleep for hours because they're just exhausted." While Marc was greatly concerned about when his next seizure would come, Kerri said, he never let this worry stop him from living his life. "He excelled at really anything he tried. He was on the workplace safety board at Sears and was trying out for management positions there," she said. "He never let it slow him down. He went on a cruise just recently to Barbados by himself and was looking forward to going on another cruise this fall. He loved going to Disney World, his whole life revolved around Disney World and enjoying the parade and characters. His parents used to take him there when he was a kid." Through money raised at Marc's BowlA-Thon, epileptic children in Ontario will be given the chance to develop a similar sense of independence and personal fulfillment through their camping experience. The Bowl-A-Thon will be held on Sunday, Feb. 17 at Classic Bowl located at 3055 Dundas St. W . and while Kerri points out, to her joy, all bowling lanes are booked, she still hopes more people will drop by with donations for Epilepsy Ontario.
