Despite finding no gunman, wave after wave to tactical unit officers continued to conduct room-by-room searches of the campus until satisfied the gunman could not have eluded them. "We were sitting there waiting. It was actually quite horrible." Stewart said some students in her class were "scared out of our wits," while others "weren't really alarmed." Jamie Basil, 19, fit that second category. She was reached via cell phone Friday and said although her teacher and many students in her class saw the alleged gunman, the waiting was the worst part. "Not scared so much, we're actually just in here waiting," she said. "We're actually just irritated that we have to wait. A lot of us have to go to the bathroom." Rick Clahane was among them, waiting for his daughter Christa, a music theatre student. "Your heart just sinks when I heard that there's a guy walking around the school with a big gun," he said. His daughter called to tell him she was safe, and was hiding under the stairs in the theatre. The pair shared an embrace Friday once the lockdown ended. "What's worse," Clahane said, "is all the rumours going around." The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident.
