www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday February 9, 2008 - 7 Oakvillegreen open house Feb. 21 Oakvillegreen Conservation Association is holding an Open House on Thursday, Feb. 21 at Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., in the Acorn Grill from 7-8 p.m. Oakvillegreen is a non-profit, non-partisan environmental organization working to help the community become healthy and sustainable. Oakvillegreen was established originally to ensure that development of the 7,600 acres of land north of Dundas was ecologically responsible. Through its member organization Ground Breakers, Oakvillegreen has also planted almost 5,000 trees and shrubs in Oakville over the past four years and hosted a seed collection workshop, heritage tree workshop and a heritage tree hunt. It also established the first communally-run community garden, supported the seasonal Organic Farmer's Market on Kerr Street and made presentations on numerous subjects from energy conservation to organic gardening to many community and school groups. A Think Tank will be held from 8 to 9 p.m. to discuss how to protect 27 hectares of ecologically sensitive land in north Halton and how to address the Region's growth plan that will double Halton's population by 2031. For information, visit www.oakvillegreen.org or call Liz Benneian at 905-257-0250. CABINET REFACING AFTER after Halton will ask for PST break The Region is asking the Province to give it and all other Ontario municipalities a tax break. At its meeting Wednesday, regional council passed a motion that calls on those at Queen's Park to fully exempt municipalities from paying PST, with the understanding that the savings would fund infrastructure requirements. If the Province was to grant this wish, it would mean about $2 million would be freed up in Halton's coffers each year. before BEFORE Pud By Steve Nease snease@haltonsearch.com EXPERIENCE THE HALTON VACUUM DIFFERENCE & power up! with a new Beam CLASSIC POWER PERFORMER · 520 air watts power enough for large homes · Electric hose and powerhead · Complete set of attachments POWER UP!
