www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday February 13, 2008 - 5 Oakville seen as ideal location for mobility hub Continued from page 3 What makes Oakville GO station so ripe for this kind of development is the vast amount of public land available there, if parking lots are replaced by structures. GO and the town together own about 12 hectares of land in the area; some 33 hectares are railway and hydro lands, and there's a parcel belonging to General Electric. Berridge said that due to Oakville's location, halfway between Toronto and Hamilton, and its excellent transportation links to the nearby airports, the midtown core is the perfect place for an urban growth centre and a business centre capable of accommodating between 20,000-30,000 new people. "We're talking about a very radical increase in the potential of this area to accommodate people, and that's exactly what we want," said Berridge. "We want to create a centre for Oakville. A place where there is lots of walking, lots of pedestrian trails, lots of bike trails, so this really does become a new destination. Along those lines, the Town is seriously considering the relocation of its Town Hall from this site, the Trafalgar Road (midtown core) location." Planning is still underway to figure out what levels of government would be responsible for what, however the project is moving forward with a business plan scheduled for March 2008 with a memorandum on who will do what coming in April 2008. Other initiatives that were approved when the board accepted its budget at the Oakville meeting included the introduction of new and more powerful locomotives capable of carrying two extra train cars. A fare increase of 15 cents for a single ticket was also approved. Beginning March 15 the cost of an adult single ride from the Oakville GO Station to Toronto's Union Station will rise from $5.85 to $6. An adult 10-ride pass to the same destination will rise from $53.50 to $54.75 and an adult monthly pass will increase from $190 to $195. -- With files from Torstar News Service. 2007 DODGE CHARGER SE Sweetheart Deals POWER MIRRORS DUAL AIR BAGS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BALANCE OF 3 YEAR 60,000 KMS WARRANTY 5 YEAR 100,000 KMS POWERTRAIN V6 ENGINE SIDE DOOR IMPACT BEAMS WAS $16,988 $ 14,995* 14,995* POWER WINDOWS POWER LOCKS WITH KEYLESS ENTRY ESP ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM AIR FORMER DAILY RENTAL 4 WHEEL ABS BRAKES WITH TRACTION CONTROL 17" WHEELS & TIRES Sweetheart Deals!
