www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday February 16, 2008 - 31 Hope blooms when you volunteer T he Canadian Cancer Society of Oakville is in need of enthusiastic volunteers to help with Daffodil Days, Thursday, March 27 to Sunday, March 30. Volunteers are needed to sell daffodils at a variety of locations throughout Oakville and to transport the flowers from the Oakville Unit to the vending locations. Daffodils are the Canadian Cancer Society's symbol of hope. The bright, cheerful blooms are sold every year and mark the beginning of Daffodil Month. Daffodil Days began in Toronto in the 1950s and have been a leading source of support to the continuation of cancer research and community services ever since. "It's the warm-hearted volunteers that make Daffodil Days such a tremendous success each year," says Lisa Moffatt, Fundraising Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society Oakville Unit. Individuals interested in volunteering this year can contact Moffatt at 905-845-5231. A symbol of hope in the fight against cancer, the daffodil represents the courage of cancer patients, the compassion of volunteers and the commitment of researchers dedicated to conquering the disease. The daffodils are sold at various supermarkets, LCBOs and malls all across Oakville at a cost of $6 for one bunch or two bunches for $10. Students looking for community serv- ice hours are encouraged to participate. The Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community-based organization of volunteers, whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.
