www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday February 22, 2008 - 33 Fairy tale story Benefit concert tonight Masterworks of Oakville Chorus and Orchestra is hosting two concerts to benefit Ian Anderson House. Tonight, (Friday) and Saturday, Feb. 23, Masterworks will hold the second concert of its 2007/2008 series, Beethoven and Mozart Masses. Both concerts will be held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. This year, the community-based choir has pledged to donate a portion of the concert net proceeds to Ian Anderson House, an Oakville-based charitable palliative care facility. "In the past, Masterworks and St. Andrew's Catholic Church have donated a portion of concert proceeds to charities," says Maestro Charles Demunyck, "but the receiving charity and amount of donation was always determined after the fact, once the success of the concert was established. "We decided that it made sense to select a charity up front this time, because we felt that people would like to know the money they are spending benefits a good cause." Ian Anderson House provides 24 hour, compassionate, end-of-life care for people in a home-like setting that strives to maintain the dignity of the individual and serve as a model for other similar hospices. Masterworks' upcoming concert features Mozart's Krönungsmesse or Coronation Mass, which, completed in 1779 in Salzburg, is one of his most popular masses. It is a Missa brevis, or short mass, as opposed a High Mass or Missa Solemnes. Appropriately, its musical tone is one of pomp, fanfare, and pageantry. Also written by Mozart, Regina Coeli and Ave Verum Corpus are favourites with fans of Mozart works for chorus and orchestra. Masterworks of Oakville invites the community to experience the similarities and differences between the Mozart and Beethoven interpretation Tickets for the concert are on sale now at Bookers, L'Atelier Grigorian, Leslie Music and Notes Music in Oakville.
