36 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday February 22, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Irish intensity too much for Titan juniors By Jon Kuiperij BEAVER SPORTS EDITOR Trailing midway through the second quarter of Wednesday's Halton high school junior boys' basketball Division 1 final, Grant Mullins and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish stepped up their intensity. Notre Dame went on an extended run to erase an early six-point deficit and coast to a 60-48 victory over the Holy Trinity Titans at Sheridan College, claiming its first-ever junior title. Notre Dame surrendered six of the first seven points and trailed 14-8 in the second quarter, but went on a 23-6 run that lasted into the final frame. Rebounding played a major role in the lengthy Irish surge, as Austin Reusch and Brendan Conway -- in particular -- provided their teammates with second-chance opportunities. "Defensively, (we) pulled down a lot of rebounds too," Pettipiece said.
