Trinity was hurt early by an injury to its captain, Sihvano Ferreira. The second-year junior, one of the team's best allaround players, fell hard on his tailbone in the first quarter and could not finish the game. "He tried to come back and made a valiant effort, but... he just couldn't go anymore," said Titans coach Dan Seixeiro. "When he went down early, it kind of limited our offence. We are pretty deep, but he is one our leaders, so it hurt us." The loss marked the third straight time the Titans have reached the junior final but come away empty. "They're disappointed. They thought they had a really good shot, and that they matched up well against Notre Dame," Seixeiro said of his players. "If we played them another time, it could be a different outcome, or definitely closer. They came out and played their game and took it to us." Matthew Smiarowski (12 points), Daniel Veres (six) and Reusch (five) complemented Mullins' game-high scoring effort. Jared Garcia was Trinity's top scorer with 13 points. Alex Foster-Roman had 10, Ferreira scored eight and Colin Hayes netted five. Both teams entered the contest with only one loss on the season. The squads were scheduled to meet in regular-season league play, but that game was canceled due to snow. Though the Cavaliers did limit Acton to 21 points, their lead was in jeopardy until the final minute. Bearcats point guard T.J. Fry drained three threepointers in the fourth quarter, pulling Acton to within three points, and the Bearcats hoisted up four more treys in an effort to tie the score. All of them missed badly, however, and Acton was forced to foul the rest of the way. "We had four shots at it. If we made a shot, it was a whole new game, but that's basketball," said Acton coach Spike Adams. "Our team is a fast-paced transition team, and we weren't able to do that. I think part of it was the size of the game -- there was a big crowd there, TV, reporters, stuff they don't usually see all year. They were afraid of making mistakes." Cavaliers guard Tristan Sandhu, the team's top outside shooter, was held to six points. Spithoff scored five while Jay Cornelius and Jon Rassem each contributed two. Fry was Acton's top scorer with 13 points. Four other Bearcats had two points each. The Cavaliers will play a Hamilton challenger this afternoon, with the winner advancing to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations single-A championships.
