The event is called Arabian Nights ­ A Night of Enchantment. This annual fundraising event will assist the organization as it continues to be the only crisis shelter service provided for women and their dependent children in the Halton Region. The March 1 fundraiser will feature entertainment, including The Habeeba Hobeika Dance Group from Toronto. There will also be a silent and live auction of prizes, led by guest auctioneer and former Canadian Football League player, Dan Ferrone. Tickets cost $125 each. This includes a wine reception, a sit down dinner, open bar, entertainment and dancing. There will also be a couple of chances to win diamonds over the course of the evening. The money raised will support the shelter's programs and services. With the community's help, Halton Women's Place will save and protect lives while assisting women and their dependent children in moving forward with happy and healthy relationships that enhance our community. The organization is dedicated to ending violence against women and their children. Halton Women's Place must raise 25 per cent of its operating budget annually to meet the day- to-day needs of the shelter. Services include making emergency shelters available, providing crisis services and information to women and children living in the shelter and in the community at large, and providing non-judgmental, empathetic crisis counselling for all abused women and their children. Retroactive to January 1, 2007, the amount of taxes paid in the first tax bracket (up to $37,178) was reduced to 15 per cent. 2. Working Income Tax Benefit The 2007 federal budget introduced a federal Working Income Tax Benefit. This provides up to $500 for individual taxpayers that are 19 or over who don't have dependants, and whose earned income exceeds $3,000. The Working Income Tax Benefit is $1,000 for families. 3. Pension Income Splitting Beginning in 2007, senior citizen taxpayers with a spouse or commonlaw partner are allowed to split the first $2,000 of eligible pension income with their spouse or partner. 4. Increase in RRSP and RPP Age Limit Effective January 1, 2007, the age limit at which registered retirement savings plans (RRSP) and registered pension plans (RPP) must be terminated has been raised to 71 (from 69). 5. Increase in RRSP Annual Contribution Limit The annual registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) contribution ceiling was raised to $19,000 in 2007. This was increased by $1,000, from the $18,000 limit in 2006. 6. Increase in RPP Annual Contribution Limit Likewise, registered pension plan (RPP) contribution limits increased in 2007 to $20,000, from $19,000 in 2006. 7. Increase in RESP Lifetime Contribution Limit The lifetime contribution limit to registered education savings plans (RESP) was increased to $50,000, up from $42,000, in 2007. The maximum annual Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) was increased to $500 from $400. The annual contribution limit of $4,000 was eliminated. 8. Increase in Lifetime Capital Gains Exemption The lifetime capital gains exemption for small business owners, farmers and fishers has been increased by 50 per cent to $750,000, from $500,000, effective for transactions that occurred on or after March 19, 2007. 9. Increase in Threshold Limits for Spousal/Equivalent-to-Spouse Tax Credit The taxpayer's dependent spouse, common-law spouse, or other relative may earn up to $9,600 in 2007 before this credit is clawed back. - News Canada All good things come to an end...
