Communities (Water Garden Communities) told councillors that the Queen Mary Drive area would experience a five per cent increase in traffic as a result of the development. Queen Mary Drive resident Diane Trovato read a petition her son Clayton is circulating through the neighbourhood. "The new development is proposing a full movement driveway onto Shepard Road," she said. "This will mean an increase in traffic on my street, Queen Mary Drive. This is a residential area and there are a lot of children here. The children play a lot, there is a school close by, two daycare centres, a church with a Sunday School and a school bus zone on Queen Mary Drive." The petition concluded by asking that no driveways to the development be placed on Shepard Road and if a driveway is put in place it should only allow traffic to turn towards Kerr Street. Other residents had problems with the very concept of the development. "Building this is like building a shipyard on Sixteen Mile Creek and then wondering why the ships can't get down to Lake Ontario," said Chris Belchers. "At this point in time during the day's traffic high points we cannot get out of Shepard and onto Kerr Street because of the volume of traffic, and now you want to add another 500 vehicles coming out of here at rush hour. It's just totally insane." Another resident noted that the development, which he said looked like castle walls, does not fit with the inviting character of the Kerr Village and as such should not be the first thing people see as they enter. With all the input received from the residents and the developer, the task now falls to Town staff to examine the information and come back with a recommendation as to whether the development should be allowed to proceed. Energy Conservation Tip of the Day Homestyle soups & prepared foods. The finest cheeses from Europe, the UK & Canada. Avoid vampire electronics Most of us don't think about our mobile phone charger plugged into the wall, or the computer that's never turned off and rests in sleep mode when no one's using it, or better yet the alarm clock plugged in 365 days of the year. What many people don't realize is that these electronics are using power. Next time you go to leave the house think about unplugging devices that don't need to be on. You'll not only help with your energy consumption, but you'll notice a decrease in your monthly utility bill. -- Courtesy Direct Energy Entertaining made easy with Denninger's party platters & catering service.
