www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday March 7, 2008 - 15 Pasta Night coming up By Natalie Zazulyk ABBEY PARK HIGH SCHOOL, GRADE 12 F rom Q.E. Park to Abbey Park High School, the proud tradition continues. Imagine the following scene: round tables set with cheery red and white tablecloths, soft flickering candlelight, romantic guitar music, solicitous wait staff and a scrumptious pasta dinner...a fine Italian restaurant you might think? Not quite. This special scene will be set this spring for one night only when the Abbey Park High School cafeteria is transformed into a taste of Little Italy with our annual Pasta Night. Mark your calendars, because on Thursday, April 3, it will once again be time to celebrate Pasta Night, an annual charity event that raises money to support the Canadian Cancer Society. Coming up to its 40th year, Pasta Night (formerly known as Lasagna Night from its previous inception at the former Queen Elizabeth Park High School) has always been a huge success, raising thousands of dollars each year through a delicious homemade pasta dinner, a silent auction, as well as generous donations from the surrounding Oakville community. Abbey Park High School's fourth annual Pasta Night will be serving a full pasta dinner (with vegetarian or meat sauce options), including salad, garlic bread, an assortment of desserts, as well as cold and hot beverages. All items will be prepared by our very own foods and nutrition classes under the supervision of their dedicated teachers, and the pasta dinner will be served by enthusiastic senior students and members of APHS Student Council. Adding to the evening's atmosphere will be fine student entertainment. This year, our goal is to raise $5,000 for this worthy cause. I am sure there is not one person reading this who has not, sadly, been affected in one way or another by the ravages of cancer. That is why we need your help to make this evening a complete success. We are accepting donations of food items such as pasta, ground beef, tomato sauce, vegetables (for vegetarian tomato sauce), rolls, parmesan cheese, salad items and hot and cold drinks. We commonly seat approximately 400 people at two seatings. Any help will be greatly appreciated. We are also soliciting donations of gift certificates, gift baskets, store/business services and the like for our popular silent auction table. If you, or your place of business, are are able to donate pasta-related food items, silent auction prizes to our school, or a cash donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, not only will your assis- tance be greatly appreciated, but you will also be recognized in our program and our school newsletter as a contributor. Everyone is welcome at Pasta Night, so stop by at one of the two seatings (5 p.m. or 7 p.m.) and enjoy an evening of good food and wonderful entertainment, while supporting the Canadian Cancer Society at the same time. If you are able to make a donation to Pasta Night, contact Abbey Park's student council staff advisor at 905-827-4102, ext. 2231. Thank you so much for your support, and see you at Pasta Night.
