After opposing the policies of the new Islamic government, she attended demonstrations and wrote anti-revolutionary articles and was arrested and imprisoned at age 16 for her views. Her book outlines that she was tortured and sentenced to death, converting just before her impending death from Catholicism to Islam and marrying a prison guard, whose family obtained her release more than two years later.
