The awards will be presented at a reception and ceremony to be held on Tuesday, May 6 at the Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville. "There are many women in Halton whose exemplary service to others raises the bar on leadership, responsiveness, action, perseverance and social awareness," said Women's Centre Executive Director Melvina Walter. "They are our neighbours, relatives and colleagues women who exemplify integrity and determination," said Walter. The Women's Centre is hosting its 10th annual Women of the Year Awards, together with the second annual Scholarship of Hope Award. The Scholarship of Hope Award is a new initiative to assist a young woman who has overcome physical, emotional or financial challenges. The keynote speaker at the awards ceremony will be Ann Mulvale, former mayor of Oakville and long-time community advocate. This celebration raises awareness of community service work and is a major fundraising campaign for the centre. If you are interested in nominating a recipient for Women of the Year or the Scholarship of Hope or in obtaining tickets for the event, you may obtain a nomination form by visiting The Women's Centre, located at Hopedale Mall, Suite 229, or by calling the Centre at 905-8479104, or by e-mail at wcadmin@haltonwomenscentre.o rg.
