16 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday March 28, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Two Oakville high schools in robotics competition The gears will be flying today and tommorrow as four robotics teams from the Halton District School Board join 66 other Toronto area teams in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. Student teams from Oakville Trafalgar High School, White Oaks Secondary School, Burlington Central High School and M.M. Robinson High School have designed and built robots to complete assigned tasks for the competition that aspires to make science, math, engineering and technology as interesting and exciting for students as sports. "Competitions on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning will provide lots of action," said Dave Lewis, Co-ordinator: Pathways, Guidance and Cooperative Education, Halton District School Board. "With 66 teams competing, additional space had to be setup in the Hershey Centre's adjacent practice arena. The teams will setup their `pit stops' just like in NASCAR, where they will frantically repair and improve on their robots between matches." The competition will be held at the Hershey Centre, located at 5500 Rose Cherry Place in Mississauga, beginning 9 a.m. and continuing throughout each day until the daily awards ceremonies at 4:30 p.m. Enthusiasts who cannot make the trip can watch the competition online at www.DiscoveryChannel.ca. enter to WIN! aBackyard Patio Collection Sears daffodil March 27-30 from SALES BERTIN STABLES Spring Lessons & Summer Camps · Weekday Lessons 4/$107 or $35/Lesson · Saturday at Farm 10am-3pm $40 (Children 5-12 yrs.)
