Oakville Living Editor Angela Blackburn earned an honourable mention in the Health and Wellness category for her story Deadly obsession dealing with the plight of a morbidly obese man, and his aunt's fight for treatment and support. The Oakville Beaver also earned an honourable mention in the Best Creative Advertising category. Oakville Beaver photographer Liesa Kortmann earned an honourable mention for Photographer of the Year. Milton Canadian Champion photographer Graham Paine, whose work often appears in The Beaver, won the Photographer of the Year award for the third straight year. Burlington Post photographer Ron Kuzyk, whose work also appears frequently in The Beaver, placed third. "Winning breeds winners," said Riziero Vertolli, director of photography, Halton Division of Metroland West Media Group. "Even though photographers work individually, the ideals of team and mentoring are important and it shows." Oakville Beaver cartoonist Steve Nease picked up a secondplace award in the Cartoon of the Year (circulation over 10,000) for a cartoon drawn specifically for the Burlington Post, mourning the loss of a Burlington firefighter. The Beaver's sister papers in the Halton Division picked up several OCNA awards. In the General Excellence Awards, The Milton Canadian Champion finished second in the 12,500-24,999 circulation category. In the Premier Awards, The Burlington Post won the Best Photo Layout Award for coverage of a firefighter's funeral. Burlington Post Reporter Jason Misner, whose work has appeared regularly in The Oakville Beaver, finished third in the Reporter of the Year category. The Burlington Post also placed second in the Best Vertical product category for its community guide publication. The 112-page magazine celebrating Oakville's 150th Anniversary in May drew this comment from Judge Fred Fiander: "The regal feel is the first thing that hits you.
