www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday April 11, 2008 - 39 Many opportunities for local groups at Waterfront Festival The Oakville Waterfront Festival has many excellent opportunities for various groups within our community to raise funds, gain exposure, or to make a positive contribution to the community. The Community Stage is open to local musicians, dance groups, or other performers to entertain festival goers while gaining valuable exposure and performing experience. Groups are encouraged to fill out an application form, found on the Festival website, and to send it in as soon as possible. Jurying of applications takes place April 21. The festival's volunteer program provides fundraising opportunities to not-for-profit groups. The festival pays community groups for their members' time based on the number of hours worked over the course of festival weekend. Many sports groups and community service clubs in Oakville have made the Oakville Waterfront Festival their primary means of fundraising, and had a lot of fun which is supported by PetroCanada. It is a partnership which continues Petro-Canada's strong tradition of community support. Opportunities also exist for youth and church groups or high school students to earn community service experience, volunteering with a number of activities leading up to the festival. Participants from our community have been crucial in building the festival's stature in past years and they will undoubtedly be the cornerstones of the 17th annual Oakville Waterfront Festival, which takes place June 20-22. Join the legion of community groups who work to create an event that has become a vital part of the Oakville community.
