www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday April 23, 2008 - 29 Mercedes Benz Autohaus gives back Always reliable, always evolving and forever faithful to the Oakville community, Mercedes Benz continues to offer the excellence in quality product and service that we have become accustomed to. Since 1959 their friendly, knowledgeable staff has lived up to the high expectations one comes to expect from Mercedes Benz. And it is within that realm of excellence they welcome their new General Manager, Mark LeRoeye. With over 20 years experience Mark offers a keen ability and charitable nature. Community minded, LeRoeye was eager to become involved with the charitable contributions already known to Mercedes Benz. "We are the official sponsor for the May Court Club of Oakville...an organization developed to assist over 60 local charities," says LeRoeye. "Mercedes Benz, sole sponsor for their April Art and Artisan Show at Appleby College, we support the May Court Club in numerous fund raising events, such as their upcoming `Mirror Mirror on the Wall' fashion show in May." One of the most successful Mercedes Benz dealerships in the country, founder, Andre Meray, put Oakville on the map nearly 50 years ago. A man with a vision and a heart, his dealership grew as did a flourishing community. Throughout the years, Mercedes Benz changed in face, size and ownership but never lost its focus in terms of giving back. Says LeRoeye, "As an active member of the AWIN Automotive Group, inclusive of 13 dealerships, significant monies are donated on an on-going basis to the Hospital for Sick Kids...the Automotive Group's `charity of choice'." As boundless as they are in their works of charity, Mercedes Benz Autohaus is incomparable in their operation. Mark says it best. "When you work in a high profile community from where you draw your business...it is an obligation to give back. It is simply the right thing to do." BUILT FOR LIVING. Honda Civic captures AISI great designs in Steel Automotive Excellence Award The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has announced it has selected the research and development team of the 2006 Honda Civic for this year's Great Designs in Steel Automotive Excellence Award based on the vehicle's evolutionary and cost-effective use of advanced highstrength steels. The award recognizes individuals or teams from automaker, supplier and academic ranks who embrace innovation and make significant contributions to the advancement of steel in the automotive marketplace. "Honda's sophisticated design approach has resulted in a Civic body structure that incorporates structural optimization with steel," said Brian Aranha, vice president of ArcelorMittal Dofasco and chairman of AISI's Automotive Applications Committee. "The extensive use of high-strength steel in the Advance Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure creates a new- generation platform that is safer and stronger, enhancing the vehicle's ability to deal with crash energy during impact." According to AISI, new advanced high-strength steels offer significant weight savings, improved energy absorption and crash resistance. The Honda uses several new steels and processing technologies. Body features include extensive use of tailored blanks for improved body performance, reduced weight and cost. Honda also achieved 50 per cent high-strength steel content in the body. The high-tensile steel beams provide increased side-impact protection and the overall design with steel provides enhanced body rigidity, earning Insurance Institute for Highway Safety five-star crash rating.
