www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday May 2, 2008 - 9 Oakville man charged A 19-year-old Oakville man is facing charges after a jacket and wallet went missing at the Ontario Court of Justice building in Milton Monday morning. Between 8:05 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. at the courthouse located at 491 Steeles Ave., a Brampton man was filing papers at the courthouse and left his jacket in the waiting area outside Courtroom No. 9 while he went for a coffee. When he returned, the jacket was missing. It was quickly found inside the courtroom, but what was missing was the Brampton man's wallet, which contained cash, identification and credit cards. Halton Regional Police Court Officers were notified and a male suspect was quickly identified by Halton Regional Police Special Constable Escort Officers. Shortly after, the male suspect was seen at the front of the court building, was confronted by a court officer and the missing wallet recovered. The credit cards were found in a laptop case the suspect was carrying as well as on his person. The suspect was at court to appear in Courtroom No. 9 related to charges of theft and fraud. Charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, possession of stolen credit cards and breach of probation is Michael David Kurmitis, 19, of Speers Road in Oakville.
