"These are the people that give selflessly of their time -- maybe your neighbour, coworker or best friend. These are the people that need to be recognized for their efforts and the Community Spirit Awards are the perfect venue to do so." Since 2002, the Town of Oakville's Community Spirit Awards have recogty champion for one of the eight Community Spirit Award categories. Award categories include: Arts Award, sponsored by The Oakville Beaver; Group Volunteer Award, sponsored by Sun Life Financial; Heritage and History Award, sponsored by the Invidiata Team; Individual Volunteer Award, sponsored by Paradiso; International Award, sponsored by Riordon Design; Senior Award, sponsored by Seniors Helping Seniors; Sport Development Award, sponsored by Tim Hortons; and Youth Award, sponsored by Royal Bank. Specifically, the Town would like to see more nominations in the following categories: Group Volunteer, Sport Development, and Seniors Award. Nomination forms can be picked up at the Recreation and Culture Department at Town Hall, all recreation facilities, any of the six library branches, or filled out online at www.oakville.ca/csa.htm. The seventh annual Community Spirit Awards will be presented on Wednesday, June 11. Tickets cost $30, including dinner and the awards ceremony. Tree planting May 10 Ground Breakers Oakville will be hosting a community planting at Donovan Bailey Park on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to noon. All ages are welcome to attend. Plantings take place rain or shine. The area that will be planted is between Hixon and Rebecca streets. Park and enter at the Hixon Street entrance.
