www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday May 2, 2008 - 39 Annie Jr. Aglukark coming to town for concert May 31 Oakville resident and Juno Award-winner Susan Aglukark is headlining a charity concert for Halton Family Services (HFS) on May 31 at the Meeting House, 2700 Bristol Circle. Proceeds will support HFS. Executive director Nancy Brown says community support of this event is crucial for the organization. "Adequate funding for our services is increasingly difficult to obtain," said Brown. "Support of this concert will help us to provide counselling and support to our most vulnerable low-income individuals, couples and families." Canadian singer Kelita will open the show at 7:30 p.m., performing some of her hit songs to warm up the crowd. Aglukark, award-winner and social awareness activist, will be taking the stage to sing and help raise support and awareness for HFS. "We are very excited to have Susan," said Brown. "Her music speaks to the suffering of families not only to her native Inuit in the far north, but here in our own community. She's a great example of a woman who has endured trauma and has triumphed over it." HFS is a non-profit organization established in 1954 and funded by four United Ways in Halton. It has a long track record in the community and has undertaken many initiatives to provide nonprofit counselling services in the Halton region. HFS serves more than 2,500 individuals, couples and families a year. HFS supports the community by offering programs and services such as individual, couple and family counselling, credit/debt counselling, services for abused women and men, services for seniors and counselling for children who witnessed abuse, with locations in Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Georgetown.
