Youngsters Lauren and William Dixon combined to win 10 medals, including four gold. National team members Colin and Sinead Russell, meanwhile, won five events each for the Dolphins, who improved three positions from last year's provincials for their best-ever team showing. William Dixon, 10, was perhaps the Dolphins' wild card at the meet. He surprised many in winning the 50-metre and 100m freestyle events, posting club-record times, and added silver medals in the 200m freestyle, 100m individual medley and 50m butterfly. Sister Lauren, 12, earned gold in the 100m and 200m breastroke. She claimed bronze in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyles. Olympic-bound Colin Russell, 23, swam to victories in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyles as well as the 100m breaststroke. Sinead, a 14-year-old member of the national youth team, finished first in the 100m and 200m backstroke, 200m and 400m individual medley, and the 200m freestyle. Also keying the Dolphins' showing at provincials were wins by their girls' relay teams. The 11/12 4x200m medley relay team of Olivia Sbaraglia, Lauren Dixon, Maggie Burns and Alexandra Newton earned the top ranking in Canada with its gold-medal swim. Meanwhile, Sinead Russell, Lauren Dixon, Olivia Andersen and Jacqueline Baillie won the 13/14 4x200m medley relay by a few hundredths of a second. The Dolphins' 13/14 freestyle relay team of Bronwyn Evans, Russell, Baillie and Andersen added silver. The provincial team championships attracted 600 of the fastest age group swimmers in Ontario. Swimmers from each club could participate in as many as five events in order to earn points for their team. Vikings earn fourth title of hockey season Jesse Taylor scored twice to lead the Strataflex Vikings peewee house league team to a 4-2 victory over the Hamilton Lawford Sharks in the final of the Waterloo Fun Festival Hockey Tournament. Connor Prescott and Ryan Vournakis also scored as the Vikings won their fourth tournament of the year. The Vikings also won tournaments in Thorold, Shelburne and Bradford. Ryan McNamara, Patrick McGinnis and Graham Prentice drew assists. The Vikings, who were edged 1-0 in the Minor Oaks championship game, turned in the best record of all 24 teams in the tournament. Sean Murray posted a shutoutin an 8-0 win over the Ajax Toy Blox Sharks. The Vikings then defeated Waterloo Gibson's 102 and played the Cooksville Phantoms to a 3-3 tie. Taylor led the team in scoring with four goals and eight assists. McGinnis, McNamara and Prescott each had four goals and three assists and Tommy Fox had four goals and set up a pair. Vournakis and Dane Mastantuono had two goals and three assists each and Mitchell Cowburn had two goals and assisted on two more while Eric Burzycki had a goal and three assists. Also picking up assists were Jarrett MacDougall (four), Brendan Heyburgh (three) and Prentice (two).
