Oakville finished third at the Blessed Sacrament competition last month, then claimed bronze at a tournament in Niagara Falls earlier this month. SPORTSBRIEFS In the Blessed Sacrament tournament, the Vytis finished second in its pool -- falling by eight in the semifinal to a strong Niagara Falls team -- before handing the Kanata Basketball Club a 12-point defeat in the bronze-medal game. At the Niagara Falls competition, the Vytis convincingly downed Toronto Triple Threat and Ancaster Magic to advance to the semis, where it lost a two-point heartbreaker to the Hamilton Wildcats. Oakville bounced back in the bronze-medal match to hammer the Kitchener-Waterloo Vipers 62-47, with Will Coulthard (17 points), Sam Lambert (12) and Drew Hebb (11) leading the way offensively. Other members of the team are Guy Armsden, Morgan Billard, Eliott Cheeseman, Jason Deichert, Paolo Militar, Haris Nurkanovic, Anthony O'Dell, and Aziz Smailagic. Head Coach David Coulthard is assisted by Scott Lambert and Chris Hebb. The team is managed by Dwight Billard. Guimond heading to University of Guelph Former Oakville Blades forward Geoff Guimond has aommitted to the University of Guelph for the upcoming hockey season. A Mississauga native, Guimond began this past year with the OHL's Sudbury Wolves before joining the Blades. He had 11 goals and 21 assists in 34 regular-season games with Oakville, then added 14 points in 20 playoff contests as the Blades won the Provincial Junior A Hockey League title. Guimond tied for second in team scoring at the Dudley Hewitt Cup Central Canada championships, and notched a hat trick at the Royal Bank Cup against the eventual national champion Humboldt Broncos.
