While Mimico and Halton Hills share top spot in the Ontario Jr. B Lacrosse South East Division with identical records of 9-2, it's clear the Buzz are somewhere in between the two. Oakville improved to 7-2 on the season with a split of its weekend home games. Paced by a six-goal performance by Harry Hristopoulos, the Buzz opened the weekend with an 11-8 win over the Halton Hills Bulldogs Friday. However, the Buzz fell 8-5 Sunday to the Mimico Mountaineers, snapping their sixgame winning streak. Mimico scored three times in the second period and added another early in the third to build a 7-2 lead and although the home side rallied in the final 10 minutes, they couldn't overcome the big deficit. Josh Ruys scored twice in the opening period, the first one coming 15 seconds into the game only to be answered 14 seconds later by Mimico. Mimico took the lead three minutes after that and this time it was Ruys countering in just 23 seconds. Mimico would score five straight over the next 40 minutes. Goals by Alex Kruse, Brad Gillies and Dylan Gilbert came too late for the Buzz to make a run at Mimico. The Mountaineers handed Oakville its only other loss this season, a 12-10 defeat in the second game of the season. Hristopoulos completed his second hat trick of the game, scoring three times in a seven-minute span to help the Buzz break a 7-7 tie in the third period against Halton Hills. After trading goals through the first period, the Bulldogs struck twice in the opening minute of the second period. Oakville would answer with four straight, though, the last one a power-play goal by Kevin Harper with just one second remaining in the period. Halton Hills again pulled even early in the third before Hristopoulos' goal binge, with one thrown in by Spencer Taugher for good measure, gave the Buzz the lead for good. Braden Gallant also had a big game for the Buzz, scoring three times. Ruys and Gillies each had three assists. Oakville plays Thursday night in Halton Hills (8 p.m., Mold-Masters SportsPlex), before hosting two weekend games, Saturday against Akwesasne (7 p.m.) and Sunday versus Cornwall (2 p.m.) at the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. Akwesasne is 5-6 this season while Cornwall sports a 4-7 mark.
