www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday May 30, 2008 - 37 Arts Briefs Sculpture exhibit An exhibition called Celebrating Life Through Stone is being held June 5 to 21 at Maple Grove United Church, 346 Maple Grove Dr. The outdoor exhibition features Zimbabwean stone sculptures presented by sculptor and curator Chaka Chikodzi, whose gallery, Africville, has been involved with fundraising in Oakville for the past two years. This year Africville has teamed up with the $Million or More Oakville campaign to help in their efforts to raise one million dollars for the Stephen Lewis Foundation over the next two years. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from sculpture sales will be donated to $MOMO, earmarked for grassroots projects in Zimbabwe to help ease the pain of HIV/AIDS there. An opening night reception will be held June 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Maple Grove United Church. The exhibition's regular hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visiting artist Godfrey Mtenga will be joining Africville on his first trip outside Zimbabwe to show his work, and will be on site sculpting and talking to visitors about his process. Juno Award winner Adam Solomon and Tikisa will also perform African Sekous music. A stone sculpting workshop will also take place from June 9 to 13. Richards will be preparing dishes from her latest book, Italian Express, as well as interacting and sharing her cooking secrets. Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar.
