Oakville was also victorious Friday at home, edging the Akwesasne Lightning 8-7 to snap a mini twogame losing streak. Gallant added five assists Sunday for a ninepoint outing. Gilbert had two helpers, while Robert Bentivegna had a goal and four assists. Also notching markers were Brad Gillies (two), Alex Kruse and Josh Ruys. Oakville scored seven unanswered goals in the second period to pull away from the Celtics. Friday, the Buzz trailed 3-1 early in the second period before scoring five of the next six goals. Oakville held a 8-5 lead midway through the third and held off the late rally by the Lightning. Gilbert and Gallant each scored twice for the Buzz, with singles going to Spencer Gallant, Connor Gamble, Gillies and Kruse. No Oakville player had more than three points. Cam Watts was victorious in goal for Oakville in both weekend contests. The Buzz will play two games this weekend, visiting the Mimico Mountaineers Friday and then hosting the Huntsville Hawks Sunday (a 2 p.m. start at Glen Abbey). The Braves, who feature plenty of Oakville talent, won the game in the final minute on a touchdown run by Jacob Huebeck. Hamilton had scored to take the lead less than a minute earlier, overcoming a 12-1 halftime deficit. The Braves are the second Burlington junior varsity football team fielded by the Burlington Minor Football Association in the South Central Ontario Football League. The BMFA decided last year to field a second junior varsity team this season because of the depth of skilled players in the Burlington and Oakville area. The team will be back in action this Sunday with a 5:45 p.m. game at Nelson Stadium against the Ajax Dolphins.
