Its Youth Volunteer Program offers a healthcare environment in which to gain valuable knowledge and experience while making new friends and having fun. Youth volunteers work primarily on the hospital's nursing units, helping patients with meals, menus and visiting, and assisting staff with daily activities. They also transport patients and materials, or can work behind the scenes if they'd prefer. For those interested in additional involvement, leadership and other opportunities, including fundraising and social events, are also available. Youth volunteers are asked KAREN NEWMAN / OAKVILLE BEAVER to commit to a minimum of one shift per week. A variety of morning and afternoon shifts are available both during the week and on the weekends. Youth volunteers who achieve 50 hours or more of service at OTMH are eligible for a letter of reference while those who spend a minimum of one calendar year, two full summers, or a total of 80 hours of service may apply for one of the OTMH Auxiliary's many annual post secondary bursary awards.
