The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday June 7, 2008 - 31 Third KCC goal came after apparent hand ball Continued from page 30 WAVE OF SUCCESS: The Wave All-Stars defeated the East Coast Selects to win the North American Female Prospects Tournament in Rochester, N.Y. Team members are: (front row, from left) Emily Robinson, Laura Corcoran, Cami Leonard (middle row, from left) Ailish Forfar, Hailey Browne, Shannon Jewer, Gabrielle Leonard, Sandra Zielinski, Olivia Whitford, Andrea Ziesmann, (back row, from left) assistant coach Pierre Leonard, Mia Favretto, Julie Hall, Megan Montgomery, Christine Grant, Brittany Clapham, head coach Stephanie Boyd and trainer Donna Hall. Eisses' first goal came just after the opening whistle, when he blew a shot past Aquinas keeper Victor Carreiro to finish a beautiful cross-field pass. Aquinas' Matt Kupisz tied the game shortly after that by way of a penalty kick. Eisses replied quickly with his second goal of the game before the end of the first half. Eisses' third goal was a controversial one. In the dying minutes of a closely-contested second half, the referee did not whistle down a ball that appeared to make contact with Eisses' hand inside the Raiders' 18-yard box. He knocked the ball down, turned, and fired it past Carreiro to secure the victory. "It was controversial. It could have gone either way," he said with a smirk. Aquinas coach Brent Fraser didn't focus on the call afterwards either. "I don't want to get the refs involved in this. They're human and will make mistakes," he said. "At the end of the day, if you look at the two teams, KCC outplayed us and deserved to win by two goals." Fraser said he warned his team before the game to watch out for Eisses, adding the Raiders even made adjustments at halftime to shut down the KCC star, but that he "still did his thing." Eisses has high expectations of his team as it advances to next week's Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) A championship, though his teammates may need to chip in a bit more offensively for the Cavaliers to be successful. "I expect us to do pretty well. We've got a stronger team than last year, so hopefully we can pull through this year," he said. Leonard nets tourney-winning goal Oakville's Gabrielle Leonard scored in overtime as The Wave Hockey All-Stars edged the East Coast Selects 3-2 to win the North American Female Prospects Tournament in Rochester, N.Y. Leonard scored on a slapshot with less than two minutes to play in overtime to seal the victory for The Wave, a team made up of midget and bantam players mostly from Oakville. The team is coached by former US national team player Stephanie Boyd. Hailey Browne paced The Wave offensively, scoring six goals and setting up four more in six games. Browne also had the tying and winning goals in a 4-2 semifinal victory over the Ottawa 67s. The Wave went 3-1 in round-robin play, defeating Rochester Maksymum 5-3, the Ottawa 67s 5-1 and the Howe Stars 5-3. Their only loss was a 3-2 shootout loss to the East Coast Selects. The Wave also won the Quebec Women's Prospects Tournament in Laval a few weeks earlier. The Wave defeated the Connecticut Yankees 2-1 in the championship game, avenging an earlier 4-2 loss to the Yankees in round-robin play.
