Also in the photo is Dale Hawtin. Melanie will compete in the Canadian Nationals in July. The Christopher Lockwood Scholarship Foundation donated $5,000 to the Golden Horseshoe Disabled Sports Association to help Melanie with her costs of flights to Switzerland and England so she could compete with athletes in her class to better her racing times. This year the Paralympics are in September, two weeks after the Olympics. Melanie is trying to secure a position on the senior team within the next few racing seasons. Melanie is the top development female athlete in her class for Canada for 2007 and ranks second in the world. Community Involvement is what we're all about. In addition to providing community news, sports, entertainment and business 3 times a week, The Oakville Beaver newspaper takes pride in the fact that we support the organizations that make Oakville the caring community it is. Thanks to the Bay Oakville Place for donating a portion of the proceeds to the Oakville Hospital Foundation that was generated from the Hbc Foundation Golf Tournament. Their tireless efforts raised $10,000 for the purchase of vital medical equipment for OTMH. Funds raised from the Hbc Foundation Golf Tournament benefit many community organizations from coast to coast, and we are honoured that OTMH was selected as one of the beneficiaries.
