Make sure you stop by on Wednesday, July 9, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., to check out our newest branch in the Cleaview area of Oakville and join in the fun! The unique Clearview Neighbourhood Branch opened its doors to the community last November and has provided an inviting community space for busy families for the past seven months. Called a `Neighbourhood Branch' because of its smaller square footage, select library services and hours of operation, Clearview is the first of its kind in the Oakville Public Library system. John Oreto, a Clearview resident and regular OPL customer, feels that the Clearview Branch is a welcome and much-needed addition to the Clearview community, "We love having this library in our area. The staff is excellent; they always make time to answer any questions we have. The children's area is extremely inviting and my children love coming to the library to play and learn." With feedback from our customers such as this, it is easy to see why Clearview has much to celebrate! Oakville Public Library's CEO, Lori Sims, is delighted that the Clearview Neighbourhood Branch is able to reach the community in such a direct way. "At OPL we have many ways of delivering services to the community but our branches remain a very important component of our overall structure. This year Africville has teamed up with the $Million or More Oakville campaign to help in their efforts to raise one million dollars for the Stephen Lewis Foundation over the next two years. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from sculpture sales will be donated to $MOMO, earmarked for grassroots projects in Zimbabwe to help ease the pain of HIV/AIDS there. Africville also helps support the Howard Hospital, a rural hospital in Zimbabwe that serves over 200,000 people on a dwindling $40,000 yearly budget.
