E.- After a courageous battle with cancer, passed away on June 15, 2008 in Burlington, ON with family at his side at the age of 81. He will be sadly missed by his children Eric (Tanya), Peter (Gail), Laurie (Gord) and Erin (Steve); his grandchildren Travis, Lyrisa and Brendan; Sarah and Megan; Matthew and Emma; and Callum, Ava and Benny; by Joan (Nixon) Leslie; and by his surviving sisters Lesslie (Noble) and Eileen (Deveaux). Predeceased by his brothers Ross and John. Born February 8, 1927 in Toronto, Jim spent an active and athletic youth in Montreal, participating in numerous sports. After graduating from Montreal High School, he worked for a number of companies, including Continental Can and Lyman Tube, eventually becoming National Sales Manager with Dennison Manufacturing. In later years, he was a loving grandfather, also known as "bunka" or "poppa", who would brag to his friends about his many grandchildren and their achievements. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Ross Cutler on June 11, 2008 at OakvilleTrafalgar Memorial Hospital. Murray was the beloved husband of Joyce and is survived by his Mother, Hazel Cutler and his two sisters Ruth and Marilyn. Veteran WWII, Royal Canadian Navy- Passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at the age of 82, surrounded by his 4 loving daughters; Leslie Bush-Harriss, Kimberley Gould, Kerry Cook, Lindsey Dragone. Survived by his wife Dorothy and his sons-in-law; Hal Gould, Mike Cook & Nick Dragone. Lovingly remembered by his 8 grandchildren; Daniel Harriss, Hallie & John Gould, Jordan & Barrett Cook, Frank, Dana & Cole Dragone. Also survived by his sisters Audley (George) Jackson, North Carolina; Beverley Murray, Toronto and Linda Bresnahan, Massachusetts, and their children. Born Verdun, Quebec 1925; served as Seaman for R.C.N. and R.N. and on H.M.C.S. Snowberry 1943-45. Member of P.E.O., A.P.P.E.G.A, I.E.E.E., U.N.T.D. (Upper Canada) and Zeta Delta of Sigma Nu. Ley grew up in Montreal, and maintained ties with friends, colleagues and family there after he left to enlist in the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17. His service in the navy on the H.M.C.S. Snowberry, and particularly its role during the preparation stages of D. Day, had a profound effect on his life and he continued his association with the Canadian Naval Association until death. As a veteran, he attended memorial services held in Canada, Normandy and recently at the 60th anniversary of the V.E. Day celebrations in the Netherlands. Upon his discharge from the service, Ley traveled to Toronto where he met and married Dorothy Mountjoy. He then enrolled at the University of Toronto and obtained his Electrical Engineering Degree. He was passionate about his chosen profession and only retired, reluctantly, in his seventies. His career allowed him to indulge another passion; travel, and he worked on many projects abroad, including Europe, Hong Kong and The Philippines. Ley and Dorothy had four daughters in quick succession, who subsequently married and provided him with sons-in-law, and eight grandchildren whom he adored. Poppa was devoted to his grandchildren and has left them all with very special memories of family ski trips, evenings at the horseraces, and amusing tales and anecdotes form his childhood. He will be thoroughly missed and his memory cherished. Ley passed from this life as he lived it: unfailingly civilized, considerate and dignified. Rest in Peace Dad. Online condolences may be made at www.oakviewfuneral.ca RICH, Bernard Wakeham Bernard was at home in Oakville in his bed by the window, his loving wife Margaret and his family were by his side as he closed his eyes for the last time. He died peacefully on June 12th 2008 at the age of 86. Bernard will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years Margaret (Dakers) and his five daughters Bonnie Rich (Thomas Calvert), Catherine Hansen (Kaj), Virginia Pearce (Richard), Linda Essiembre (Yvon) and Pamela Bezic (Val) and his ten grandchildren Mark, Devon, Laurel, Emily, Peter, Eric, James, Rebecca, Joshua and Jennifer. He was born in Beamsville Ontario, but most of his boyhood memories were of St. Catharines where he met Margaret before going off to the war. During WWII, Bernard served as a flight instructor with the RCAF before being assigned to 31 Squadron RAF as a flight officer and posted to Burma. Upon his return to Canada, he joined Trans Canada Airlines and went on to a distinguished 37 year career. He retired in 1981 as a highly respected 747 Captain with Air Canada after logging 26,600 hours in the air. In his retirement years when he wasn't filling his time maintaining his beloved home in Oakville he was golfing, sailing, flying and sharing happy hour with anyone who happened to drop in. He made many friends in Naples, Florida where he and Margaret were the center of what they referred to as their "other life". For those who were lucky enough to cross his path, he was a genuine man's man. From skiing the mountains of the Alps to diving in the coral reef, from canoeing Canadian northern lakes to sailing Lake Ontario and everything in between; he took advantage of all life's opportunities and he generously shared his experiences with others. The Boy Scouts at Maple Grove United Church were one of the many groups that benefited from his commitment to community. Bernard was admired for his devotion to his five daughters (Bonnie, Catherine, Ginny, Linda and Pam). His passing is a devastating loss in the lives of his 5 daughters, ten grandchildren and all those whose lives he touched. All of our lives have been enriched by Grandpa's words of wisdom, encouragement and inspiration. His priceless life lessons will continue to guide us all. Our Canadian Airman has flown, to touch the face of God. Final Departure. Obituaries MacARTHUR, Dorothy Frances (nee Tomlinson) "Tootie"- Peacefully on Saturday, June 14th, 2008. Loving and devoted wife, for 61 years, of the late Cam. Wonderful mother to Judy (Fergus), Cam (Leah), Heather and Jamie (Terry). Doting grandmother to 12 and great-grandmother to 10. Born in Toronto, she grew up in Winnipeg. She and Cam settled in Oakville following WWII and raised their children on Dundas Street (now Trafalgar) until moving to "the farm" north of Oakville in 1961. She loved her family. Each Sunday she hosted large family dinners, serving heaping portions of brisket and tomato aspic. Known for being a great conversationalist, these occasions were true family events at which she held court with everyone from toddlers to seniors. With her sense of humour and quick wit she would often have a crowd of people in stitches. With Cam, her soul mate, she regularly attended extended family reunions and events across Canada and the United States. When she wasn't at her family's sports, scholastic or other events, she was enjoying summers at the cottage on Georgian Bay -- always catching the biggest fish! Warm winters were spent in Tortola, British Virgin Islands with visits from family members and friends. To Tortolans, she and Cam were family and the feeling was mutual. Survived by her sister Jean of Toronto. Predeceased by her brothers Joe of Nassau and Bill of Thunder Bay. Beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews. Resilient in all facets of her life, she faced recent health challenges head-on with an upbeat attitude. Each moment was lived to the fullest. No doubt, she's already ordered a hot dog and beer to enjoy with her beloved Cam. A heartfelt thank you from the family to Brenda Oosten, whose loving care and compassion over the last five years granted mom her wish to remain at home, at "the farm."
