www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 20, 2008 - 7 Trustees presented two options in southeast Oakville school report By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF DON'T PAY RETAIL! FACTORY OUTLET SALE INSTALLATION OF CROWN MOULDING, OUTDOOR & INDOOR COLUMNS BY PROFESSIONAL FINISH CARPENTERS The fate of public elementary school facilities in southeast Oakville is now in the hands of Halton District School Board trustees. The school board's Director of Education Wayne Joudrie presented his Revised Administrative Report for the Program and Accommodation Review (PE14) at Wednesday night's board meeting. Trustees received the report without comment, but reiterated that the options contained within would be discussed and voted on at a special board meeting on Wednesday, July 2. The preferred option listed in the report would see New Central and Brantwood schools closed in September 2009 with no new school added for the Clearview community. This option would feature Chisholm Public School with a JK-6 English stream, Linbrook Public School with a JK-6 English stream, Maple Grove Public School with a 1-6 French Immersion stream and EJ James Public School with a 7-8 Duel Track Program. Advantages listed in the report for the preferred option included: · preferred school model (JK6) of the Program and Accommodation Review Committee (PARC); · smaller schools for primary/junior students; · consolidate intermediate programming; · central French Immersion location; · utilize existing facilities. · Clearview students all attend one school (Linbrook); · implementation by September 2009; · geographic balance · revenue positive for the board. The challenges for this option, as noted in the report, included: · relocation of the French Immersion program · smaller Middle School (reduced by 33 per cent) · site limitations at Chisholm and Linbrook. While this option was marked `preferred' it will not be the only option trustees will be considering. The alternate option would see a school built in Clearview while Linbrook, Chisholm, New COLUMNS New for the Do-It-Yourselfers premade corners for all our profiles Over 70 smooth or patterned profiles WAINSCOTING See Director page 9 Director's comments out of order Continued from page 6 sure, political rhetoric and implied/real threats." Beside the fact I believe he is overdramatizing, such comment has no place in his report to the board. He has overstepped his mandate. The board members know what is happening. Children are going to be exposed to these things in life. They hear what parents discuss in the home. It may be "trying" for Joudrie, as the Beaver reports, but he and other bureaucrats better accept the idea that citizens will make their opinions known when a controversial decision is being made. A.
