The former Hydro building, located west of Lyons Lane, is being demolished to make room for the spots, resulting in the temporary closure of the surrounding spaces. A notice was posted at the station last week, letting riders know of the upcoming construction. "A safety assessment was conducted and the decision was made to close this section of the parking lot to protect the safety of customers and their vehicles," Eric Eisen, Senior Project Engineer, GO Transit said. The 100 spots that surrounded the building will reopen near the end of August. The additional 200 spots will open early in the fall. In the interim GO is asking that riders consider parking at the new 200-car gravel lot, which opened recently at the corner of Davis Road and South Service Road, just east of Trafalgar. "Unfortunately for safety reasons this temporary disruption could not be avoided," said Mayor Rob Burton who is also a GO board member. "When complete this lot will provide additional onsite parking to serve the community, as we await the construction of the parking structure." In addition to the parking at the Davis Road lot, the mayor encouraged residents to consider taking Oakville Transit. "I use Oakville Transit to get to and from the GO regularly, with a valid GO ticket you can take the bus for only $0.50."
