For the second year in a row, the 26year-old Oakville native was taken first overall in the National Lacrosse League's dispersal draft, this time going to the expansion Boston Blazers. It will be the third team in three years for Dawson, one of the league's most prolific scorers. After four seasons with the Arizona Sting in which he averaged 87 points -- including a career-best 107 in 2007 -- Dawson was claimed by the Portland Lumberjax when Arizona suspended operations. Dawson helped lead the Lumberjax to the NLL final, scoring 31 points in three playoff games, but when Arizona announced it would not return to the league, the Sting's former players were once again entered into a dispersal draft. "We are pleased to add a player of Dan's caliber to the Boston Blazers," said Tom Ryan, the Blazers' head coach and general manager. "He is a proven winner and one of the brightest stars in the league right now." Dawson will be holding a lacrosse camp at the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre July 14-18. JV Invictas rout Mississauga Strong play on both sides of the ball helped the Oakville junior varsity Invictas to a 27-6 rout of the Mississauga Warriors last weekend in Ontario Minor Football League action. The Invictas got touchdowns from AJ Singh, Ashton Rochester, Wayne Doyley and Steve Kofi-Akuffo. Matt Laidlaw's hard running up the middle turned several longyardage situations into first downs, and quarterback Josh Adams completed three passes for Oakville. Adam Powell was good on three of four conversion attempts. Meanwhile, the Invictas defence managed to limit Mississauga to one major. Maro Michetti, Marcus Simopoulos and Steve Davitsky all had interceptions, with Michetti's pick and ensuing 40-yard return helping set up an Invictas TD. Jordan King helped force one of the interceptions by providing pressure. King later sacked the Mississauga quarterback and recovered a fumble. Steve Falconi also contributed a sack and Matt Toppan recovered another Warriors fumble. Another defensive highlight was a play by Nick Testani, who prevented what seemed to be a sure Mississauga touchdown by knocking down the ball in pass coverage. The win was the second in three games for Oakville, which earlier in the month fell 35-28 to Tottenham and then pounded the Toronto Jr. Ti-Cats 61-0. Rochester had three touchdowns and Tim Doyley added another against Tottenham. Kofi-Akuffo had three touchdowns and two runs of 70-plus yards versus Toronto, with Rochester contributing four majors and Te Nguyen and Michetti also reaching the end zone. U10 Cyclones blow away Grimsby The Oakville under-10 Cyclones boys' soccer team won the championship at a recent tournament in Smithsville. Oakville blanked Grimsby 4-0 in the final to claim the title of the West Lincoln competition. Grimsby had won its previous four games in the tournament without allowing a single goal. Members of the Cyclones are Bryan Lourenco, Christian Tremblay, Jordan Grist, Brian Veloso, Frank Bosco, Quintin McCleary, Scott Fishman, Brandon Logan, Hamish McNeill, Callum MacDonald, Christopher Schmidt, Josh Widman, Joacquin Torres and Matthew Mac.
