www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday July 11, 2008 - 7 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dog owners are inconsiderate J. Poirer's letter (My front yard is not your dog's personal toilet, Oakville Beaver, July 4) hits the nail on the head and is rather heroic. I am, like many other homeowners, also face the same problems. I have nothing against dogs (they are beautiful pets), but most owners are selfish and inconsiderate by allowing their dogs to excrete and pee in other people's yard and not their own. While our lawns are browning, theirs are in tact and green! I may want to add that allowing their dogs into our lawns ( to excrete and pee) is tantamount to trespassing and possibly vandalism. The Town of Oakville should have a by-law to make it mandatory for dog owners to excrete and pee only in their own yard before walking them. MICHAEL IVANIN / OAKVILLE BEAVER HELPING OUT: Home Depot employees Jonathon Wilson, left, and Rory Pinto were among 20 home depot workers who donated their time to do landscaping and gardening last Friday in front of Jean and Howard Caine Apartments, 259 Robinson St. Hats off to Home Depot volunteers On behalf of the residents of the Jean and Howard Cain Apartments on Robinson St. operated by Ontario March of Dimes Non-Profit Housing, we would like thank Home Depot for sending out a group of volunteers (close to 20) to enhance our gardens which run the full length of the building. Home Depot supplied a number of skids loaded large bricks to completely surround the flower beds, preventing soil run-off and keeping the sidewalks clean. They also planted many additional flowers to make the gardens even more attractive. After almost five hours of non-stop work we were able to treat them to a barbeque as a small token of appreciation for their hard work. Imagine these Home Depot employees volunteered to do this on their day off. A large proportion of the residents in our building have physical disabilities and many of them use wheel chairs, and while the March of Dimes does all it can to keep them and other residents happy funds only stretch so far. Consequently a donation like this by Home Depot is much appreciated. Thanks again! Also thanks to Dan Webber, our superintendent, and Steve Cull, a resident who operates Charterabilty a program to help disabled people get out on an annual cruise and participate in other boating events. They called several companies to help spruce up our gardens and Home Depot met the challenge. BOB BLANS A GRATEFUL RESIDENT Clearview decision was in best interests of students I would like to offer three cheers for the Halton Public school trustees. One cheer for each of the balanced three schools they have decided on for east Oakville. This was clearly not an easy decision, but a wise one. The decision that was made in the best interest of the current and future students of east Oakville. By creating three schools of equal size that can offer equal curriculum opportunities in a fiscally responsible manner can only be the right decision. I am troubled by the recent smears of the trustees' decision in letters to this newspaper. The trustees have used our democratic representative system. They have made an informed decision that represents, in their conclusion, what is best for the students in a financially responsible way. The trustees were not swayed by a group the biggest budget or loudest cheers. Now is the time for all parents to lead by example, turn the other cheek and move on, or as some youth of today may say "don't be hatin'."
