10 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday July 12, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Halton's Crime Stoppers Coordinator is the best in Ontario Halton Regional Police Sgt. Gary Gold has been named Coordinator of the Year for his tireless efforts to better Halton's Crime Stoppers program. Gold, coordinator of Crime Stoppers of Halton, received the award during an Ontario Crime Stoppers training conference on Monday. The award was presented to Gold in recognition of the numerous actions he has taken to enhance Crime Stoppers in Halton, including the organization of a three-day bicycle ride from Burlington to Windsor to raise funds for the program. Gold also designed and developed an interactive computerized promotional presentation to encourage young people to call Crime Stoppers if they become aware of any type of criminal activity. The video presentation replaced an outdated Powerpoint presentation, which had been utilized for a number of years to acquaint high school students with the Crime Stoppers concept. The video component, produced by students enrolled in the Interactive Multimedia program at Sheridan College in Oakville, has also been incorporated onto the Halton Crime Stoppers website where it lets young people know that Crime Stoppers now has the ability to take tips anonymously via text messaging. "It is an honour and a privilege to be recognized with this prestigious award," said Gold. "It is also a tribute to the staff, board members, volunteers and everyone in the community who promotes and supports Halton Crime Stoppers. The accomplishments of the program are the Stoppers of Halton, program chair Tom Suddaby singled Gold out for going above and beyond the call of duty. "We had reached a certain plateau and were moving forward comfortably," he said. "We needed the push that Sergeant Gold provided to lift us to new levels. Throughout the year he breathed new life into Crime Stoppers and helped improve the profile of the program throughout the region. He really deserves the Coordinator of the Year award for what he has contributed to Halton Crime Stoppers." Think Green. Breathe Easy.
