12 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday July 16, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Homeowners left holding dirty diapers Waking up one morning after garbage collection, I came across a bag of diapers someone had dumped, obviously in desperation, into my blue recycling bin. It made me think -- what are the parents of Oakville doing with their diapers on the odd week there is no waste pickup? Unlike the City of Toronto, where diapers and cat litter can be disposed of weekly into green bins, homes with infants and animals in our township have to take a deep breath, in between garbage weeks, during the summer months. In our household, which has recently been extended by young visiting relatives, we make an in-between drop off at the local dump. Apart from potty training our animals and newborns, what other option is there? The Municipality of Halton needs to wake up and smell the dirty diapers. SHEILA CURRIE Not always about bottom line Re: Board Rejected Status Quo, Letter to the Editor, The Oakville Beaver, July 9 The only reason Denise O'Connell supports the HDSB decision is because it means her children can walk to school. I am certain if it was the reverse, we would be witness to her wails of protest. How dare the writer tell me that the board's decision is right for my children? As a taxpaying parent, I have the absolute right to defend my children's right to attend local, existing schools that are reasonably accessible on foot, even if the current demographics do not support the optimal costing model. It shouldn't always be about the bottom line. CHARLES WALSH Hub provides community service Continued from page 1 at a central location and on the transit route making it convenient for those without vehicles. In my opinion, it would be a disservice to the community as a whole to consider moving it. If concerned parents took the time to research the River Oaks Community Hub, they would realize it is a positive community initiative with many services that are available in one location, a one-stop shop for everybody. It's time that we educate our children about these services and perhaps one day they can help a friend a relative or even themselves. If we, as parents, embrace this great service so will our children and they will be proud that their school was chosen to be the hub school of their community. It all stems from us, the parents, the role models. EFFIE GIBBONS New !
