8- The Oakville Beaver, Friday July 18, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Classic Mustang show will feature 500 cars Continued from page 1 "Ford doesn't allow vendors on its property and there will be vendors at the show," said O'Hearn. But that's not all. Nearly 500 of the cars that coined the term pony cars -- a class of car launched and inspired by the Ford Mustang in 1964 -- will be on display at the show, more than half of them from other provinces in Canada and from 20 U.S. states. Many of the cars will be transported to the show by trailer. O'Hearn said driving a $200,000 car from afar is just too much "road hazard." Cars are coming from British Columbia, Florida, Texas, the Maritimes, a large contingent from Québec, Manitoba and elsewhere. O'Hearn himself owns three Mustangs -- a 1970 Mustang Coupe, a 2003 limited special edition Mustang Mach 1 and a 2007 Mustang GT Convertible. O'Hearn will likely have his Mustang Mach 1 in the show. There will also be local vendors and a presence from sponsors such as Kennedy Ford and Oakland Ford Lincoln. Profits -- coming from registrations, as admission to the public is free -- will be shared among various charities including Halton Healthcare Services, the Trillium Health Centre and the Lions Club of Oakville. O'Hearn said anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 is expected to be raised for charity. There will be lots taking place at the show on each of its three days and more than 250 local hotel rooms have been booked for the event. "Most of the program will be held at the Ford of Canada office building and the very large employee parking lot that will be set up with a sound system for music and communication during the three days," said O'Hearn. The show will also sponsor a special Cruise Night at Hopedale Mall on Aug. 1 MATTRESS LIQUIDATION SALE 15 YR. WTY 20 YR. The Golden Horseshoe Mustang Association, is a group of classic Mustang lovers organized in 1994 to serve car enthusiasts around Toronto who preferred classic Mustangs and Shelbys (1964-1/2 to 1973). It now has approximately 150 members about 50 from Oakville and the club is an affiliate of MCA. "We appreciate all Mustangs, but are focused on the early ones, so our events and shows are tailored to classics," said O'Hearn. The club has become a resource to members for "We appreciate all Mustangs, but are focused on the early ones, so our events and shows are tailored to classics." George O'Hearn, vice-president and show committee co-chair of the Golden Horseshoe Mustang Association parts sources and information on classic Mustangs and Shelbys. Monthly meetings are held at the Canadian headquarters of Ford of Canada and usually include a carrelated guest speaker and a tech talk segment. You don't have to own a Mustang or Shelby to join and many members joined the club to get help and gain knowledge before buying or restoring a car. The club's annual Stampede show takes place in mid July and attracts more than 100 Classic Mustangs and Shelbys, from collectors to daily drivers. It has been held in Mississauga, but did not take place this year as preparations were underway for the international show. The Stampede show will return next July, said O'Hearn. The club also participates in local shows and cruises, as well as out-of-town events such as the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise in Michigan. In addition to monthly meetings, the club holds various events including organized cruises, excursions, a road rally, and a Mustang Day at the Track, which is an open lapping day at Mosport International Speedway.
