Furyk was fifth at last weekend's British Open, while Ames, Kim and Ben Curtis -- who will also play this week at Glen Abbey -- posted seventh-place finishes. Several other top players were initially expected to participate in this week's Canadian Open, such as 12th-ranked Boo Weekley, but withdrew before the tournament for various reasons. Paul had also hoped the field would include past champions Vijay Singh, who won the Canadian Open the last time it was contested at Glen Abbey (2004), and John Rollins (2002). "We should have had a number of guys who are in the top-20 to top-50 that withdrew (but) we're going to get that," said Paul, noting many players are dealing with injuries. "The guys coming in here are pleased, and the golf course is good. The guys are happy to be back in Oakville and get a course they're familiar with." The field, which was finalized Monday with a qualifying tournament at Milton's Rattlesnake Point Golf Club, does feature six former champions, 19 Canadians and two members of the national amateur team. Furyk will be shooting for his third consecutive Canadian Open championship, something that has never been accomplished in the tournament's 100-plus-year history. Other former champions who will compete include Mark Calcavecchia (2005), Bob Tway (2003), Scott Verplank (2001), Billy Andrade (1998) and Dudley Hart (1996). Canadian and 2003 Master's champion Mike Weir will almost certainly be the crowd favourite this week, as he was four years ago when he nearly won the tournament, succumbing to Singh in a playoff. Other recognizable names for fans to follow are Fred Couples, Retief Goosen, Camilo Villegas and Oshawa native Jon Mills. Rounding out the Canadian participants are David Hearn, Bryan DeCorso, Wes Heffernan, Ian Leggatt, Eric Landresville, Brad Fritsch, David Morland IV, Andrew Parr, Jim Rutledge, Dustin Risdon, Todd Halpen, Jacob Scriven, Adam Short and Charlie Woo, as well as national amateur team members Nick Taylor and Michael Knight. "I think Jeff Quinney is an up-and-coming star. Anthony Kim certainly is," Paul said when asked who fans might want to watch out for this weekend. "I'd like people to watch our two young amateurs who I think have a bright future. Knight and Taylor will be superstars." Paul said the rainfall over the past week, which caused the cancellation of practice rounds and a Pro-Am event Monday, should provide longer hitters with an advantage this week. Seven of the Tour's top 10 driving distance leaders will play in the Canadian Open, led by Bubba Watson (314.3 yard average). · Players competing in this week's RBC Canadian Open are listed in bold · Past Canadian Open champions are listed with an asterisk (*) To advertise in this section Call Jessica 905-845-3824 ext 299 FLOORING DECKS CONSTRUCTION PAINTING C P PAINTING PAINTING Quality & Efficiency!!
