Behind them is the giant plant from space with plans for world domination. Oakville actress balances work with more work By Tina Depko OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Sarah Cornell is talking on a cellphone from somewhere in Toronto. The actress has just wrapped up an audition and judging from the tone of her voice, it sounds like it went well. When asked about it, she cracks a joke that she didn't have to worry about hair and makeup -- it was an audition for voice work. "It was a pretty-low key audition for voice work, which I've started doing more of, so they give you a script for a commercial and you read it out," she explains. "Let me tell you, I'm looking rough this morning since I've been so busy. I'm just glad I made it there on time." Cornell, 27, now calls the big city home, but she is an Oakville girl at heart. She grew up in a quiet part of town, with a passion to be on the stage. To help achieve this, she went to Sheridan College, where she gradu- ated from the musical theatre program. She said she covets her upbringing here. "I liked growing up in Oakville and it was a beautiful town," she said. Leading roles for women, however, are anything but plentiful. "You have to trust that it is worth it, but really, I'm the queen of part-time jobs and I've had some unusual jobs in my life," she said. "You have to really love it, or you will quit because there can be some really bleak times when the work is not coming in and you wonder how you are going to make rent. This industry is a test of perseverance." However, Cornell has done well for herself and already has some pretty heavy-hitting credentials to her name. One of the most prominent is a stint on Broadway as the stunning blonde secretary in the smash See Good page 32 CARPET Ashburn/Ashburn Royal/Ashburn Supreme 100% Crush Resister Nylon R2x Stain & Soil Repellent System Patented Softbac HARDWOOD Tupelo 2 1/4" Red Oak Canadian Made VINYL Rustic Series 10 year wear Lifegard protection HOT Summer deals www.searsfloor.ca 10 year wear & 6 year stain warranty from $ 72 4th Line 2 Now $ 49 4 Now $ 09 Reg. $359 OUR PROMISE TO YOU: · Quality of service · Knowledgeable sales people · Courteous staff · Reasonable prices · Sears guarantee of satisfaction* 2 CARPET · CERAMIC · HARDWOOD · LAMINATE · VINYL · AREA RUGS QEW 3rd Line FREE SHOP AT HOME AVAILABLE Speers Rd.
