www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday July 30, 2008 - 13 Running the dream Amazing teams wanted Continued from page 12 will be able to select from a series of prizes up for grabs. The Amazing Race Against Time, a name that reflects a creative twist on the popular television series and Stephen Lewis's book, A Race Against Time, is the brainchild of a group of six recent university graduates, all Oakville natives, who have been inspired to help reach the fundraising goals set out by the $MOMO campaign. Team leader Gillian Zimmerman points out that the girls feel fortunate to have found a way to give back to the Oakville community and support the continued efforts of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. "My friends and I have led very happy and comfortable lives. It has been an eye-opening experience for us to learn about the foundation and the AIDS pandemic in Africa. The hard work we've put into pulling together this race has allowed for an enormous amount of personal growth for each one of us," said Zimmerman. As well as a fun day of challenging competition the girls hope the event will promote awareness and educate younger members of the community about the tragic AIDS crisis facing the lives of so many people in nations throughout Africa and around the world. They hope that their hard work and dedication throughout the planning phases of the race will ultimately pay off, estimating that the event will raise approximately $30,000 for the $MOMO campaign.
